I bought a house recently and they have surround sound speakers in the bathroom but it doesn't appear that they are hooked up to anything. Should we just take these down or should we have surround sound in the bathroom? Does anyone else have speakers in their bathroom? I find it to be odd but that's just me I guess.

They are probably in-ceiling speakers? They are likely just meant as remote speakers (to a second or third zone from a receiver or from a speaker switcher) to listen to background music in the bathroom and drown out the other sounds? ;)

Moxy, I would have to take them down in my house. I couldn't even let people vote about it. I can just imagine the marathon showers some of my family members would take just because they are dancing and singing in the shower more than usual.

I don't find bathroom speakers all that useful. I have an entire surround system in the bedroom of really good quality and decent 2-channel audio and could easily hear anything played in the Master Bath. I guess bathroom audio/video is emerging. They have those mirrors too where you can have an embedded LCD TV. I guess when the TV goes you get a new mirror? I can certainly put on the 55 inch bedroom TV and walk a few feet

A friend was in Japan on business recently and he was surprised to see a TV in the bathroom of the hotel! Not sure how it worked but his tales of watching from the bathtub were amusing. More so as he couldn't understand a word of what was showing  .

They even have outdoor TVs or hot tubs with pop-up TVs now. I have a hot tub and I don't get in as often as I used to or like to (I was retired at one point for a bit under 6 years) and I can't imagine being that addicted to TV to go in there to relax and have to think about a piece of electronics that is not in an ideal environment (no matter how well made). If I wanted to, I probably could see at least a portion of the 88 inch screen in the basement from the hot tub. But when you're going in there 15 minutes give or take a little just to relax, I'd rather just relax

Surround sound in the bathroom? That's interesting. What next? Karaoke systems in the bathroom? From what I know, quite a few people sing very well, but only in the bathroom. Maybe it's something to do with the feeling that no one else can hear them. btw you may want to check that there are no spy cams hidden in your bathroom, too.

lol that's a mike of a different kind alright. However, I think some ingenious people will probably find some other use for it, seeing as how it seems so handy ...

I hope this kind of soap can clean the body.

I don't have a speaker in my bathroom but I would like to if I have my own house. I love soaking in the bathtub on summer and I use my cellphone for music.

Speaking of in-ceiling speakers, how much would it cost me if I place speakers all over the house. Something like the upgrade of the speakers in Sims 3, if you know what I'm talking about.

Take it from me and I've have a big tub in the master bath and I've had in a prior house a whirlpool tub, a hot tub is best. Yes you pay for heating it and it stays full (except when you change the water a few times a year) and yes you have to buy chemicals and test it but it is not hard. Mine is in an nice private area and while my lot is very small the way it is situated I have one neighbor and they are facing the same area as the picture below except further away and you don't even know it's there.

Change the water a few times a year? You make it sound like a swimming pool. Or is it so big that it would qualify as one? Anyways I envy you. The picture you have attached to your post reminds me of the house of a friend who is very rich.

I could be wrong but I think it holds 270 gallons of water. It is not a big hot tub. I believe my old two person Whirlpool in the old house held 95 gallons (and I suspect the tub in my master bath is a bit smaller than that - 60-65?). The problem with the old Whirlpool was the builder refused to upgrade the 40 Gallon hot water heater. So I had to use no hot water and I would have to shut off the water for about 15 minutes after filling it until the hot water ran out and then finish filling it. I replaced my hot water heater in the present house a couple of years back and just did the same 50 gallon size it just had since it is just me. I suspect if I filled up the tub I have it would suffice as long as not too much hot water was used right before it. I went looking for tankless models but it was something that was much more expensive and difficult to find dealers and the expansion tank (required by my county code) about the hot water heater was shot and almost ready to leak and it was a big chunk of the price of a new one and for an almost 11 year old (at the time a bit over 2 years back) hot water heater (the estimated life is 8-12 years) I just replaced everything. When you want to relax (and I may go in now for a few minutes before going to sleep) it is a pain to wait. We live in a fast paced world today (and yes in some ways I'm a bit of a dinosaur even though I don't reject technology). When I bought the hot tub the manufacturers specs said 4-6 people but there's really no way it would comfortably hold 6. I would think 4 would be crowded. I would guess the inside of the tub is somewhere in the neighborhood of the size of a king sized bed give or take a bit. Before I un-retired (medical benefits way too expensive), I worked like a dog (and I don't know if I could do what I did today and that was only a few years back. You can see from the previous picture the tree line and it goes down a steep hill for about 25 feet until common ground. I made them leave the trees as the hill was too steep for grass and they are basically almost untrimmable by me now. Below is the one big side of my house I took a year ago (I had to have a landscaper come out to stake up the Leyland Cypresses on the right side due to the weight of the snow - he couldn't believe I did all the work myself).

That's interesting. I would take them down if they were in my house. If I really wanted to listen to music while in the bathroom I'd probably just use my iPod.
